Christmas Dinner at the Monson's (Bishop of YSA Ward)

Christmas Eve dinner with Bishop (Chicago YSA) and Sister Monson. They invited us and the Elders from the YSA ward and those from the Lake Shore 2nd ward to Christmas dinner.  Delicious ham, mashed potatoes, sage and parley carrots (Cathi loved), green salad and rolls.  This was followed with one of Sister Monson's signature SUGAR FREE pumpkin pies and except for the one piece I ate there, I took the rest home along with some carrots and mashed potatoes (the next two days I made mashed potato pancakes!)!  The Monson's are the best.  I love hearing Bishop Monson speak to his congregation.  As you know, I am front and center with Sis. Shawna Monson then Bishop Calvin Sedgwick Monson then Elder Rowley and Elder Bingham.  They live in an apartment on the 21st floor and are close to the lake.  And, their house is filled with retro furnishings.  Check out the old rotary phone on the side table in front of the tree (there is a better view of it in the next picture).  I could have spent all day just looking at the decorations.  The only thing they need is a few baklite cameras!  I just might have to see about getting them one, when I get home!

Another picture at Christmas Eve dinner with Elder Irons in the front then Elder Smith and Jon Monson. Interestingly, Elder  Smith's companion is Elder Bingham and Elder Iron's companion is Elder Rowley.

We didn't want to miss out on all the fun of family Christmas so Lizi set up a Zoom of the family which Cathi took a picture of with her phone.  You have left to right Errol, Lizi covered up by Mattyk then Michael (in a sleeping stupor), Ky, Soly, Clinton and Ces.  The blurr in the middle is Bisque.  out of the picture are Allysa then Todd and Chowder.

This is the final decorations on our little Blessing Tree I introduced in a pervious posting.  Several of the Elders and Sisters in our Zone took this activity to heart.  I hope they will consider this activity a tradition for next year and when they return home.  A Niven tradition expands!

Lastly, I wrote another poem and I thought you might like to read it.  I wrote it to be set to music and sung by children.  As I cannot read music and I do not know anybody well enough to write the music to it I am afraid the world will never know...

I Know

by Eric Niven

I know Jesus loves me,

I know Jesus cares,

I know Jesus listens,

To all my simple prayers.

 I know Jesus watches,

I know Jesus sees,

I know that Jesus answers,

When I’m praying on my knees.

Chorus

 I know Jesus blesses,

I know Jesus hears,

I know Jesus makes me strong,

Even in my fears.

 I know Jesus forgives me,,

Looking beyond my wrongs,

Jesus will protect me,

Jesus makes me strong.

Chorus

Jesus is always with me,

He’s helping me to grow,

Growing testimony,

Of these things I know.
