Our Very Old and Fun Apartment Building

I finally downloaded a simple program that lets me make a collage of photos.  Beginning with the top left and proceeding left then down and left-this is the gate to our building.  Our building with yours truly.  Our very cool arching door.  One of the entry way windows.  The secondary locked door which contains our (very empty and sad) mailbox.  The stair way up and our front door which is just around the top of the stairs.  Everyone who knows me knows I love old things.  I am in heaven with Chicago housing!

So, this shows the old brownstones that are on the other side of our street.  This is very typical of this area.  Old brownstones turned into apartments.

The other picture is the Church on Foster St., so it is called the Foster Building.  Very different to what Cathi and I are used too.  As our apartment literally overlooks the parking on one side, we were assigned to this ward Chi-1 and given oversight to this building.  We were reassigned by Stake President so we spent only two weeks working this this area and district.  Now oversee Lake Shore 1, Lake Shore 2 and Chicago YSA at the Building on Clark Street (Clark Building).

  1. I love the old architecture there! Beth and Ian lived in several old 3-story brownstones with ornate stone and brickwork. The interiors were sweet too, with wood floors, high ceilings, and heavy wood doors. There always seemed to be 20+ layers of paint on the walls, and I wondered as I drank water from their faucets just what might be lurking in those old pipes over 100 years old! There were all sorts of little corner shops and markets, and we often went to Medici's, a fun pizza shop down their street. They were just a few blocks from the University of Chicago - the old buildings and the chapel/cathedral on campus were so beautiful. We attended a bell recital once. Love that area!
