Here we have three pictures on the right of friends who joined us for a group Lunch and Games. The main dish was Gumbo prepared by Raheem who was baptized just a week before this event by his best friend Isaiah. Isaiah is a young man whom we have been helping acclimate to Chicago. He was new to the ward and so we grabbed him. We had some great discussions and many shared spiritual experiences. We are very fond of him and are very close.
We eagerly awaited Raheem's special Gumbo! I have never had Gumbo so I was extremely eager to try it! It was absolutely fantastic! I only wish there had been more. I think we are going to see if he would be willing to make at our next Lunch and Games, but Cathi says I put it too much onion so at her request the Cole Slaw was tame. The individuals in the pictures are from the Chicago YSA ward. They are from right to left in the top right picture: Omo, Cedric, yours's truly, Raheem, Cathi, and Isaiah. I introduced Isaiah and Raheem already (we were privileged to be the witnesses at his baptism!). Omo is a young man we befriended, Cedric is a member who we have been working with for three weeks now, answering questions and helping see truth, and of course Isaiah.
The two pictures on left top and bottom are of the famous Fish Keg! We had to try it out. In our last mission we found a fish restaurant and at Eric’s insistence, we ate lunch there often. When we visited Sacramento to go through the temple with friends we had taught on our last mission, we stopped by to eat there and it was closed. I wonder if it was our patronage that kept them afloat. Their fish reminded me of Sydney from my first mission back in 1979! The only thing missing was the passion fruit custards. I still dream of the piping hot fillets in a crispy batter! Sauces are optional as the fish was so good you could eat them straight. The Keg’s fish were pretty good, the batter was corn meal based. I had fresh fish from Lake Michigan. Next time I will get their fish and chips for a true comparison, that is if I can convince Cathi to go with me (she hates fish because “it smells and tastes fishy.”)

I have never had gumbo! Get a good recipe while you are there from your friends and you can make it for us when you get back please!
