Willmet Zone Service Project

Cathi and I have very fond memories from Sacramento, our previous mission together, of doing service projects. In Sacramento the young missionaries had to perform a required amount of hours of service per week. Here in Chicago, there is no real service requirement. We believed our zone would come together if we united in a service project and so we contact our mission president and received the go ahead to organize zone service projects. These pictures were from our first attempt. Our choice: The Mission of Our Lady of the Angels.  We worked about three hours organizing donated food and preparing bag lunches for senior citizens. What a blast! The young missionaries loved it. Not only was it a break from the day to day, but it gave all of us a chance to fellowship with each other, and with nonmembers in a service atmosphere. The leadership of this organization were so pleased that they asked us to come again! For weeks following this service project the young missionaries, whenever we met them, talked of how much they enjoyed that service project and asked if we are going to do more.  It is hard to believe that many of these young missionaries had never done something like this before. Cathi and I made a goal of doing one zone service project per month, if possible. Our next will be serving Thanksgiving dinners to the homeless at the Salvation Army service kitchen. Expect pictures to follow!
