This was a massive relief food processing and packaging service project aligned with Rise for Hunger. It included all the wards in the stake participating. Three church buildings, the Willmette Stake center, the Foster Building and the Cark Building participated with teams composed of those adjoining wards that attend that building. The Clark building (our area) is our photo montage as it included our three wards. I put these photos in order of work production but the idea was to make as many bags of soup makings (rice, flavor package, vegetable pouch, etc.) and package the soup in a sealed bag and arranged in a box. Every time a box was completed a loud gong would sound and we would cheer. A running tally was kept as the three buildings were competing for the most finished boxes. Our efforts took place in the cultural hall / basketball court / pickle ball court / volleyball court, etc. (truly a versatile room). We had two production lines. And we worked until we ran out of the ingredients. We finished first and of course secured the honors of the most finished boxes of the three teams.
Bishop Calvin Sedgwick Monson, Bishop of the YSA ward with his wife, Shawna, in the fore ground. Their team's task was to weigh the rice and include the packet and pouch. I show three pictures of this activity as all the Bishops were there!
This is Bishop David John Chilligirian and his wife Robin. Bishop Chiligirian is the Bishop of Lake Shore 1.
This next picture is the Bishop of Lake Shore 2, Bishop Douglas Muhlestein.
This next picture is of those who were weighing each soup bag to insure the proper mis. Rice was added or subtracted as needed. Abraham Bunting and his wife Rochelle (dark sweatshirts) were on this line. When we first were assigned Lake Shore 2, Abraham was our Ward Mission leader. They are followed, down the line, by Cora Montgomery, a very good friend we have been visiting for several weeks now. Three more individuals down the line and it is me (but I am not one of those weighing the bags).
And now we come to what I consider the most crucial part of the soup making process, the precision heat sealing of the bags to insure the food is fresh! Insert the bag properly, press down and count for seven seconds. And look, there I am, third from the front. Sister ?, then Sister Clayton joined me.
These two pictures are some of our beloved missionaries whose responsibility it was to package and seal the boxes. This doesn't allow the proper placement of copy to picture so I will start at the top and work my way down as far as I can. The above picture presents Elder Rowly, Elder Smith, Elder ?, and one of our friends, Jordyn and his friend. Jordyn has the thumbs up and finally, Bro. Osmond, First Counselor in the LS 1 Bishopric The next picture is left to right, Elder Bingham, Elder Lions, Elder Nielson, Elder Trent and Elder Christensen.
Apparently this effort was a great success. Thanks to all the members and friends. Well done!
