Mission of Our Lady of the Angles (Spanish Zone!!!!!)

Here we are again at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angles.  This time we brought the Spanish Zone!  This was particularly helpful as probably 75 percent of the patrons spoke Spanish, some only spoke Spanish.  As this the first time we did a service project with the Spanish Zone the Elders and Sisters were a little cowed and didn't let their light shine.  We just had to encourage them to speak to the people and they would have a fantastic time.  Sure enough, once the missionaries started actually speaking with the patrons, conversations blossomed.  I was amazed that even though this project was a little disjointed in the organization, the missionaries were the shining light.  I have attached a few of the pictures we took!

Everybody ready?  Say, Missionaries!

One note, following this event, we arranged for our Stake President to visit with Sister Stephanie (right side, between the missionaries).  We informed Sister Stephanie that President Mickelsen is equal to a Cardinal as he oversees 9 bishops in the Wilmette stake.  She is the leader of this group of nuns and the food project under her own Bishop.  Sister Stephanie gave the Stake President (President Mickelsen, Wilmette Stake) and us a tour of the facility and the Chaple later in the week around 7:00 pm.  The story of this facility was amazing and a true miracle.  In just10 years the sisters revamped all the buildings and especially the chapel.  The chapel was scheduled for demolition as the roof was caving in.  They fully restored the chapel refinishing all the wooded benches themselves (mostly by Sister Stephanie herself).  All the huge beautiful stain glass windows, one of each of the twelve ancient apostles, were perfectly intact even after the years of neglect. When cleaning all the wood ceiling beams of dirt, accumulated smoke etc., they uncovered that all the massive ceiling beams were painted with gold designs and words.  No one even knew they were decorated.  And now, the chapel stands as a glorious and beautiful testimony of dedication and hard work by these sisters!  I think I will have to get some pictures of this edifice.  Cathi and I have visited some more expansive and huge chapels but this one, is by far the most beautiful we have seen.
